Women Playing For T.I.M.E. ® and ANNIKA Academy Join Forces to Fight Breast Cancer
ORLANDO, FL. (August 6, 2009) - Women Playing For T.I.M.E. ® (Technology, Immediate Diagnosis, Mammography and Education), the all-women volunteer group that raises funds for breast cancer research and treatment at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, is pleased to announce its partnership with the ANNIKA Academy, the premier golf and fitness Academy founded by Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam.
ANNIKA Academy has linked up with WPFT to raise breast cancer awareness and support by offering a selection of Academy golf packages to the WPFT community. A portion of the proceeds of these packages will go to WPFT to help fight cancer. To date, WPFT has raised more than $7 million dollars for M. D. Anderson - Orlando.
“Women Playing For T.I.M.E. has a proven track record for making a difference here in Central Florida in the fight against breast cancer,” said Sorenstam. “Both organizations are passionate about golf and living a healthy, active lifestyle, so my Academy is pleased to be on board with them for this noteworthy cause and look forward to helping make a difference.”
The ANNIKA Academy, created to share Annika’s passion for golf and fitness along with her own personal coaches, inspires golfers of all skill levels to reach their full potential. WPFT has a similar philosophy, taking to the links to enjoy golf while also focusing on well-being and overall health. Through this partnership, Annika Sorenstam will serve as the keynote speaker at the WPFT Lake Nona Golf Tournament this October at the Lake Nona Country Club.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled that the ANNIKA Academy has agreed to be a part of what we stand for with WPFT,” said Andrea Eliscu, operations vice chair, WPFT. “When we began 17 years ago our vision was to use our love of golf and our passion to find a cure for breast cancer to help M. D. Anderson - Orlando fight this disease. Now we have one of the premier golfers in the world supporting the work that we do, it is truly inspirational.”
