Bella Collina Tournament, featuring Women Playing For T.I.M.E. (And Men Too!)
Over the years, Women Playing For T.I.M.E. has received support and sponsorship from many men in our community. Men have driven the golf carts for us, helped us set up tournaments, and contributed in many other ways to WPFT. These men may have family members or friends afflicted by cancer or may simply feel a commitment to support M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando because of the vital service it provides to the Central Florida community. For the first time, men were invited to play in our Bella Collina golf tournament on April 27, 2009.
One of the men who played in this first tournament was Dr. Clarence “Buck” Brown, CEO and President of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, who played with his wife, Ann. Since it was Dr. Brown’s birthday, WPFT surprised him by decorating his golf cart with birthday messages!
Unique to central Florida, Bella Collina is located in the rolling hills of Monteverde, only 35 minutes from downtown Orlando. The architecture is Tuscan-inspired, with a breathtaking all stone clubhouse sitting atop the hill overlooking the open fairways and sweeping dunes below.
The format for the day was a four-person modified Best Ball. The shotgun start was at 9:00 and a lunch and awards program followed the tournament. Raffles and silent auctions were included in the festivities.

Shelia Carter-Little traces her love of golf to her husband, Al. Whether playing together or with friends, the couple loves golf. It was after playing with a friend several years ago that her friend invited her to participate in Women Playing For T.I.M.E.
Shortly thereafter, Shelia found a lump in her own breast. She underwent the tests and biopsies and the tests were all negative. "I'm glad to know I am involved in an organization that is making a difference in the lives of Orlando women… Anytime you find a lump, you're filled with fear and anxiety," says Shelia. “M. D. Anderson - Orlando was wonderful. They worked quickly and compassionately to address all my health concerns.”
Sheila and her husband, Al, were gracious hosts of this event. Al Little, served as Master of Ceremonies for this year’s event. He was gracious and fun, and brought out many smiles during the awards luncheon.
