ABC Fine Wine & Spirits
During the month of October, Fat Bastard Wine donated .25 cents for each bottle of their wine purchased at area ABC Fine Wine & Spirits retail stores to Women Playing For T.I.M.E. This promotion only applied to the ABC retail locations.
Walk For T.I.M.E.
Bloomingdale’s at The Mall at Millenia partnered with Panera Bread to organize their first annual Walk For T.I.M.E. event open to mall employees, outlying store employees and the community on October 5. Guest speakers were Dr. Kenneth Lee and Richard Klein, Department of Surgical Oncology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. A total of $2,800 was raised that day.
Boone High School’s Girls Volleyball
Boone High School’s Girls Volleyball team designated its October 10 home volleyball games ( JV and V) vs. The First Academy as Breast Cancer Awareness night. Donations were collected to benefit breast cancer research at M. D. Anderson – Orlando and spectators were encouraged to wear pink to show their support.
Brighton Collectibles
Brighton Collectibles at The Mall at Millennia, along with their new stores at Pointe Orlando and Altamonte Mall, once again donated $10 from the sales of their new Power of Pink 2008 breast cancer bracelet to Women Playing For T.I.M.E. and M. D. Anderson – Orlando during the month of October. A kickoff promotional event was held on September 27 with a guest speaker from M. D. Anderson – Orlando at each store.
Cruise for the Cause
For the second year in a row, Parent’s Everywhere Inc.’s Madness of Motherhood sponsored “Cruise For the Cause” to benefit Women Playing For T.I.M.E. Twenty-eight women cruised to Nassau, Bahamas with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines the weekend of September 18-21.These women came together not only to raise money for breast cancer, but to find relaxation, to make new friendships and celebrate life. Plans for next year’s cruise and another destination are in the planning stages.
Frenchman’s Creek Women’s Golf Association
Frenchman’s Creek Women’s Golf Association in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, partnered with Women Playing For T.I.M.E. beginning in 1999 and has grown to more than 300 participants. M. D. Anderson – Orlando offers the Frenchman’s Creek women all the programs and medical support available in Orlando. By holding multiple events within their group, their goal is to raise as many dollars as possible to eliminate cancer by supporting research. In January 2008, $124,210 was raised to continue their mission.
Merle Norman Cosmetics
Throughout the month of October, Merle Norman Cosmetics and Day Spa located at 2560 E. Colonial Dr. donated 10 percent of all pink cosmetic and Vera Bradley sales to Women Playing For T.I.M.E. and M. D. Anderson – Orlando.
Mt. Dora Women's Golf Association
This year the Mt. Dora WGA hosted a bingo night to benefit breast cancer research. A check for $4,000 for the proceeds was presented to M. D. Anderson – Orlando.
Orange Tree
Under the direction of Donna Martin, chairman, Orange Tree Golf Club hosted their 4th annual Women Playing For T.I.M.E. Tournament. One hundred ladies participated in the event and Cresthill Inc./Orange Tree Golf Club, owned by the Wisne Family, once again donated the greens and cart fees. Through the efforts of these women, more than $19,000 was raised for breast cancer research at M. D. Anderson – Orlando.
Paint For a Cure
PR’s Mexican Restaurant located at 499 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park, held another fundraiser on Saturday, October 18. A local DJ donated his services to the beach themed party and patrons purchased chances to win for items donated by local retailers and ceramic tiles to personalize in honor/ in memory of loved ones affected by cancer.
Pink Ribbon Bagels
For the third consecutive year, all area Panera Bread bakery-cafes throughout Central Florida offered special pink ribbon bagels the month of October. Twenty-five cents from each bagel sold benefited Women Playing For T.I.M.E.and M. D. Anderson – Orlando. The tasty treats featured cherry chips, dried cherries, cranberries, vanilla, honey and brown sugar. Last year, the promotion raised $25,000.
Tavistock Cup
For the 3rd consecutive year, WPFT has provided volunteers to operate the beverage carts during the prestigious Tavistock Cup hosted on alternate years by Isleworth Country Club and Lake Nona Golf & Country Club. All tips are donated to help breast cancer research at M. D. Anderson – Orlando. This year WPFT was able to raise $6,945, an increase of $1,500 from previous years.
Walk on Water
Walk On Water’s Colonial Town Park in Heathrow and their Winter Park Village stores once again had a week of daily special promotions and chances to win tickets for a variety of beautiful baskets from October 13-18 to help raise money for WPFT.
