2011 Tennis Events

One theory holds that the French word "tenez" is the root for the word “tennis.” "Tenez" means "take heed," and, in a broader sense, “play.” Each year, particularly during October, women from all over Central Florida gather to “take heed” of breast cancer by raising funds for MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando.  And they gather to “play” to strengthen and cement friendships with other like-minded women.

Tournament Chair

Although each individual tournament has its own Chairperson, Kalani Meffe serves on the Board of Women Playing For T.I.M.E. as the Chairperson of Tennis For T.I.M.E.  Kalani was first introduced to WPFT eight years ago, when she was invited to join a foursome at the Lake Nona Golf Tournament. She instantly felt a strong connection with the cause and decided to make the organization a focused area of service — and has been serving on the committee since.  

Her connection with the cause went beyond the powerful presence of so many passionate and motivated women; Kalani went through her own battle with dermato fibrosarcoma in 2002. Her extended family has also been touched by cancer, losing a loved one to brain cancer.

Kalani’s experience with the disease made it challenging to conceive children, but true to her father’s counsel to never quit, she and her husband found another path and adopted two daughters from China and a son from Guatemala. “It’s been a great family experience to travel to these other countries together.

2011 Tournament results will be posted at the end of the year.

With the combined revenue of all the following participating clubs in 2010, Tennis For T.I.M.E. was able to contribute $23,000 towards the overall check presented to MD Anderson – Orlando.
