2011 Activities and Fundraisers

 

Lake Nona Golf Event - $510,000.00

Women Playing for T.I.M.E.™ presented MD Anderson - Orlando  with a year-end check for $510,000 (projected net) for cancer research and programs which represents the total for all WPFT related activity for the year. This brings the total donations by the all-women volunteer group to the cancer treatment facility to $8.6 million over the past 19 years. The announcement was made during the group’s 19th anniversary charity golf tournament held at the Lake Nona Golf and Country Club.

Pop Warner Youth Bowl - October 29, 2011

The Youth Bowl is more than a game. It is a celebration of the women who are living with breast cancer today, and those who will face it tomorrow. Youth football players and cheerleaders will take part in this day-long competition raising both awareness and funds for MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando.  Tickets will cost $4 per person. Chick-fil-A® Milkshake Promotion - "One Sip at a Time" $500.00

During the month of October, almost 700 strawberry milkshakes were sold at the Chick-fil-A® restaurant located on Orange Avenue in Orlando.  A total of $500.00 was donated to MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando. We would like to thank Kim Hawkins, Restaurant Marketing Director at Chick-fil-A® for all of her help and support.

Saks Fifth Avenue - Real Men Wear Pink Runway Show - October 27, 2011

Community celebrities including Orlando's Mayor Buddy Dyer and physicians from MD Anderson - Orlando, lit up the Pink Production runway at Saks Fifth Avenue on October 27th to raise funds and awareness for women's cancer. Over 200 people attended this fun-filled evening and enjoyed great food, drinks and exciting raffel prizes. Click here for photos!

Walgreens Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival - Oct. 15, 2011 

This year's Dragon Boat festival was a huge success! Donations are still coming in, but we want to thank and recognize one of the largest donations from the employees of the City of Orlando. With Orlando's Mayor Buddy Dyer, they presented a check to MD Anderson - Orlando in the amount of $30,000.00. Southland Christian School - $269.00

Tatyanna Correia, an 11th grade student from Southland Christian School located in St. Cloud, FL. organized a Pink Day at her high school during October and raised $269.05 by hosting bake sales and asking students to donate $1 to wear pink. Thank you Tatyanna for donating more than $269.00 to Women Playing For T.I.M.E.

Orlando Christian Preparatory School - $1,946.00

Orlando Christian Preparatory School held a variety of pink day events during the month of October and raised $1,946 for MD Anderson – Orlando and WPFT. Thank you to all the teachers, parents and students who supported this important cause!

Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar - $1,201.00

A Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar was held on October 11, 2011 and featured Dr. Nikita Shah, an oncologist at MD Anderson Orlando, as the guest speaker. The event was hosted by Helen Lynch and Gretchen Carlson for the benefit of women in the Dr. Phillips community. Individual donations and proceeds from a silent auction amounted to $1,201 and were presented to WPFT as the charitable beneficiary.

Celebration for Survivors  - October 13, 2011

The 2nd Annual Celebration for Breast Cancer Survivors was held on October 13, 2011. This is a free and inspirational evening of information, education, healthy tips and food and panel discussion was held from 4-8pm on the 4th Floor at MD Anderson - Orlando.  Registration was required as space was limited. Golden Bear Club Mixed Golf Event - $24,000.00

The Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Pointe hosted the second annual golf event in support of women’s fight against cancer on Monday October 10, 2011.  A total of $24,000 was raised and proceeds were donated to WPFT and MD Anderson - Orlando.  The 116 participants enjoyed the beautifully manicured signature Jack Nicklaus golf course. The Golden Bear Club, Celebration Golf Management, the steering committee and volunteers were thanked for their efforts by Keene’s Pointe Golfing For T.I.M.E. chairwoman Molly Rose.

Think Pink 5K Fun Run – $7, 295.00

Dr. P. Phillips Hospital and the Dr. P. Phillips YMCA Family Center hosted the 2nd Annual “Think Pink” 5k Fun Run/Walk and health expo following the run. Over 25 physician offices and company vendors participated in the Health Expo to raise awareness for Breast Cancer month. The event attracted survivors, women currently fighting breast cancer and supporters for the cause. A total of 363  runners participated in the run and the event raised a total of $ 7,295.00.  All proceeds to benefit Women Playing for T.I.M.E. and MD Anderson - Orlando.

Pink Fashion Show in Sanford - October 8, 2011

KaDe Hair Designers & Tinka’s Closet teamed up to present a Pink Fashion show on Saturday, October 8th.  Show began  at 5pm at Tinka’s Closet and wrapped up next door at KaDe Hair Designers with a wine and hors d’oeuvres party . Donation was $5 to attend. The address is 4932 West SR 46, Ste 1042, Sanford, 3277.

Annual Hope Hike - October 7, 2011

The MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando’s Annual Hope Hike was held on Friday, October 7th from 9:30 am to 12p as we celebrated Pink October with our annual Hope Hike starting from City Hall and ending with a reception with light refreshments at MD Anderson – Orlando for the hikers.  Participants walked for their mothers, sisters, aunts and friends to help raise breast cancer awareness in our community.

Panera Pink Ribbon Bagel Day - $11,000.00

Panera Bread's Pink Ribbon Bagels are proving once again they are a big hit and are making a difference for MD Anderson -  Orlando. Panera Bread’s Go Pink Day resulted in the one day sale of 19,967 Pink Ribbon Bagels.  All proceeds of the Pink Ribbon Bagels sold were donated to MD Anderson – Orlando resulting in a donation of more than $11,000 from one day of sales.

 Panera Pink Ribbon Bagel Month - $30, 483.62

Panera Bread’s Pink Ribbon Bagel promotion in October resulted in a check in the amount of $30,483.62.  Many thanks to Annette and Galvin Ford, owners of Panera Bread, for their continued partnership with WPFT and MD Anderson!

Neiman Marcus "Bra-ha-ha" - $11,000.00

Neiman Marcus, Cosabella, and the Waldorf Astoria Orlando worked together to host an a truly "uplifting experience" that brought people together to decorate bras in hilarious and creative ways!  Over 50 bras were entered by community residents. The event raised more than $11,000.00 in donations. All proceeds will benefit WPFT and MD Anderson-Orlando . Thanks and appreciation to Kalani Meffe and her amazing committee members, including Janella Ulloa, who won first place! Here's where you can view all the winning bras.

Pink Heals Tour - October 1, 2011

The Pink Fire Trucks came back to Orlando on October 1st visiting the Orlando Health campus and in the evening they traveled to Pointe Orlando.  After 9p, the Pointe Orlando Turns Pink After Party began where wrist bands were sold to take advantage of the specials offered by select Pointe Orlando establishments.  Beautiful custom designed tee shirts were also sold on line and at the events which benefit MD Anderson – Orlando. Ember Cares Kick-Off Party - October 1, 2011- $641.00

Ember's located at 42 W. Central Blvd. in downtown Orlando presented WPFT a check in the amount of $641.00 as proceeds from their Ember Cares Kick Off Party and month-long fundraising.  Thank you Mandy Reich from Church Street Entertainment for designating WPFT as their charity partner during Pink October.

Cheers Altamonte Sports Bar & Grill - $500.00

Cheers Altamonte Sports Bar & Grill held a Breast Cancer Fundraiser Day in October and raised $500.  Thank you to the owner, Renee Cassese, who organized the event and hopes to host an even bigger event this year.

CRAVE Cares - Oct 1-31, 2011 - $450.00

Crave Restaurant presented WPFT with a check in the amount of $450.00 as proceeds earned from the Crave Cares charitable partnership program that was held during pink October.

Walk On Water - $1,000.00

Walk on Water’s Winter Park Village and Lake Mary stores once again designated WPFT as their charitable partner during the month of October. The stores raised $1,000.00 for the fight against breast cancer.  Thank you to President, Roxane Mann, for her continuous support each year.

ANNIKA Academy Packages Benefit WPFT - October 1-31, 2011

The ANNIKA Academy supported the fight against breast cancer!. All players who Book a core ANNIKA golf instruction package between August 1st and October 31st had 10% of the package price donated back to support women’s health and wellness and breast care education. The ANNIKA Academy is proud to designate Women Playing For T.I.M.E. as their charitable beneficiary in October.

Brighton Collectibles Inc.- $2,130.00

Brighton Collectibles at The Mall at Millenia and Pointe Orlando presented WPFT with a check in the amount of $2,130.00 as a result of their Power of Pink promotion.  A portion of the proceeds from the sales of their Power of Pink bracelets were donated to WPFT.

WPFT Fall Tennis Tournaments

Are you a tennis player? Several courts and clubs will be hosting a variety of WPFT tennis tournaments this fall. Watch for future announcements for a listing of dates and courts. If you would like to have your tennis club host a WPFT tennis tournament, please contact Lynda Canatay at 321.841.2272.

Fall Membership Meeting

There was a general membership meeting for all Women Playing For T.I.M.E. volunteers on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10a. The meeting was held at Orlando Health Foundation. Volunteers were updated on all the exciting events and activities being planned for the fall months.

Dragon Boat Festival Kick Off Event - August 25, 2011

Orlando Health formally welcomed their newest dragon boat to the Central Florida Community! Hosted by Shelly Lake and Orlando Health Foundation at SkyLake Studios, 99 S. New York Avenue, Winter Park, FL.  There was no cost to attend. Complimentary refreshments were provided by Stonewood Grill & Tavern and Peach Valley Cafe.

Orlando City Soccer Goes Pink - July 8, 2011 - $2,300.00

Orlando City Soccer Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness! The Orlando City Lions wore pink jerseys as they took on the Dayton Dutch Lions on Friday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Citrus Bowl in Downtown Orlando. Orlando City Soccer teamed up with WPFT and MD Anderson - Orlando for a night committed to winning in the fight against breast cancer. A limited supply of free tickets were available for WPFT supporters and their families.

Boone High Pink and White Game - May 26, 2011

The big game was a huge hit! Boone High School vs. Colonial in the annual Pink and White Game. Team players raised funds and awareness to support our mission. Festivities began at 7p with a special ceremony for breast cancer survivors. Women Playing For T.I.M.E., MD Anderson-Orlando and Orlando Health were at information tables to help educate students about cancer, health and wellness. The game was very exciting and we are please that the Orlando Sentinel captured the game highlights on this video!

ORC Masters Regatta - May 14, 2011

The Orlando Rowing Club hosted a Masters Club Spring Fling Regatta on May 14th at Lake Fairview. This was a community event for rowers and non-rowers. Music, food, entertainment, and a new focus on community health and wellness were all part of this fun-filled day. A percentage of profits from the regatta will be donated to WPFT as their designated charity of choice.

Isleworth Golf Event - April 4, 2011 - $24,591

On April 4, 2011, Women Playing For T.I.M.E. hosted the annual Isleworth golf event at Isleworth Country Club, one of the most elite golf venues in the world. Congratulations on a great event and for raising more than $24,500! Proceeds from the tournament support breast cancer research for MD Anderson - Orlando.

Dragon Boat Camp - April 3-7, 2011

Have you found that you love Dragon Boating? Become better prepared for next year's Dragon Boat Festival by attending a Dragon Boat Training camp. A special compressed after work program is being offered for local paddlers. A percentage of the paddler's entry fee will be donated back to WPFT. Paddles Up!

Tavistock Cup - Mar. 14 & 15, 2011 - $8,226

Volunteers were on hand at this very prestigious local golf event to drive beverage carts and sell water, soda, beer, & snacks to spectators. All tips received benefited WPFT and breast cancer research at MD Anderson – Orlando.

Tennis Doubles Charity Event - Mar. 13, 2011

The Orlando Tennis Center hosted a Doubles Tennis Charity Tournament that benefits WPFT on Sunday, March 13, 2011. Orange Tree Golf Event - Mar. 7, 2011- $22,007

The Orange Tree Ladies Golf Association hosted WPFT golfers on March 7, 2011. The Committee members worked so hard to put on a fun packed tournament filled with many exciting activities and contests. We want to thank and congratulate the Orange Tree Ladies Golf Association! Together, with 108 other women golfers they raised more than $22,000 for breast cancer support and research. Thank you Debbie Austin and Carolyn Alexander.

20th Anniversary Celebration - Feb. 26, 2011

MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando hosted a community celebration at Lake Eola Park on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 10 am to 4 pm. They celebrated 20 years of eliminating cancer in our community.  The celebration featured the local farmers market, free health screenings, live entertainment, kids play area and activities for the whole family. This event was free to the public and more than 1,500 people participated!
