Cancer – Did You Know?
Up to one-third of all cancer deaths may result from obesity, physical inactivity and poor nutrition, according to the American Cancer Society. Increased consumption of fruits and vegetables is associated with decreased risk of cancer. You can increase your protection against many types of diseases, including cancer, by eating fruits and vegetables containing vitamins, minerals, fiber, carotenoids and other bioactive substances that may help prevent cancer.
MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando has a multidisciplinary team dedicated to patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Home to groundbreaking treatments and state-of-the-art technology, our highly trained and specialized physicians offer several different treatment options including MammoSite® and Helical Tomotherapy. Treatment options have greatly improved in recent years to avoid mastectomies for women with small breast cancers. In addition, we are proud to be the only facility in Central Florida to offer the most advanced surgical technique for breast reconstruction – Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) flap surgery. DIEP is a state-of-the-art procedure that uses excess tissue from patient’s abdomen to sculpt a new, softer more natural breast. Benefits include less pain, shorter recovery, uses patient’s own tissue, covered by insurance, no mammograms required after reconstruction and the possibility of one-stage reconstruction.
