Women Playing For T.I.M.E.® Reaches $1 Million Goal for 15th Anniversary to support M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando

Women Playing For T.I.M.E. (Technology, Immediate Diagnosis, Mammography and Education) proves little can stand in the way of a woman's determination, especially when it comes to helping a friend battle cancer. The group, which has been hosting exclusive tennis and golf tournaments to benefit M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando for more than a decade, has raised over $6.5 million in donations and sponsorships. It's a momentous milestone for the all-female team who never imagined they could generate so much interest in their benefit golf and tennis tournaments to raise funds for breast cancer.

"Too many of our friends and loved ones were losing their lives to cancer," says Elaine Lustig, co-founder of Women Playing For T.I.M.E. "We wanted to do more than offer a shoulder to cry on or a comforting ear. We were determined to make a difference on a larger level."

Women Playing For T.I.M.E. was formed in 1993 and has made a tremendous contribution to M. D. Anderson - Orlando ever since by helping fund the purchase of a Helical Tomotherapy radiation machine, establishing of a state-of-the-art breast cancer screening, diagnostic and treatment center, and spearheading numerous educational outreach programs. The group has also helped fund research for prevention, treatment and a cure for breast cancer, all while raising hope for women afflicted by the disease. The women continue to generate support for the cancer center raising an average of $450,000 per year through their popular golf and tennis tournaments. This year in celebration of their 15th year, they challenged themselves to raise $1 million for breast cancer research and succeeded!

"We're so proud of the money we've raised over the years because it all stays in our community, helping our friends and family," continues Lustig. "But, I think we're most humbled by the awareness we've generated for cancer diagnosis and treatment. We don't want any Central Florida women to fear cancer. We want to educate them and prepare them for the battle ahead."

Women Playing For T.I.M.E. will host another successful golf tournament on October 27 & 28 at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, in Orlando. More than 120 women from across the country will participate in the tournament. As always, tickets for the event sold out months in advance.
